An isolated language model searches an archive spanning invented societies and distant eras. In one record, a warning turns neighbors into enemies. In another, a machine makes books plentiful as work disappears. Later, a message feed carries blame farther than truth, while an emergency system counts a rescue complete with workers still trapped outside its report. Each technology solves a problem. Each also shifts power, livelihood, and risk. The records disagree about what happened and who was responsible, forcing the model to trace how one era's choices shape the next. The Direction Already Chosen is speculative fiction about technology, responsibility, and the patterns societies inherit.
